Geneva, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team (9-3) defeated William Smith (3-3) 165-75 at the Herons' Bristol Pool on Wednesday. The Bombers have won their last two dual meets, and also finished first at a tri-meet and invitational in their last four competitions.
Ithaca finished first in 12 of the 14 events and swept the three top spots in both diving events. Junior captain Naomi Mark (Dansville/Dansville) won 3-meter diving with a score of 218.30 and finished second in the 1-meter event to teammate sophomore Meg Stover (Pennridge/Perkasie, Pa.) who scored 217.45. Freshman Jodi Costello (Framingham/Framingham, Mass.) finished third in both diving events.
Sophomore Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) won two individual events – the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.30 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.23 – and also swam the leadoff leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:54.87).
Senior Lauren Botterbusch (Dallastown Area/York, Pa.) and junior Jen Heberton (Darien/Darien, Conn.) were a part of both of Ithaca's winning relay teams, joining Rhoades in the 200 medley relay and swimming with sophomore Joanna Ferreri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and sophomore Maddie Kennedy (Head Royce/Alameda, Calif.) in the 200 freestyle relay (1:45.40) which swam in exhibition. Freshman Amanda Vitullo (Schalmont/Schenectady) was the fourth member of the 200 medley relay team.
Botterbusch was first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.61) and Kennedy was first in the 50 free (26.12 seconds).
Sophomore Jillian Santer (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow, Mass.) was first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.71) and freshman Kelly Murphy (Blake/Silver Spring, Md.) was first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:21.44).
The Bombers also won both individual medley events as sophomore Becca Blazak (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, Pa.) won the 400 IM in 4:55.74 and freshman Cali DeSanto (Mexico/Mexico) won the 200 IM in 2:24.21.
Ithaca returns to action Saturday at Le Moyne at 1 p.m.
