Women's Lacrosse Defeats Harwick 16-15 To Clinch Berth In Empire 8 Tournament

Senior Kim Medla scored six goals in the victory.
Oneonta, N.Y. - The women's lacrosse team (6-6, 5-3 Empire 8) beat Hartwick 16-15 Saturday. The win, coupled with Utica's loss to St. John Fisher, clinches a berth in the Empire 8 tournament for Ithaca.
 
Senior Kim Medla (Brewster/Brewster) led the Bomber offense with a career-high six goals. The last of which came with two minutes remaining to break a 15-15 tie and proved to be the game winner. She also registered an assist and five draw controls. 
 
Junior Becky Bedard (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow Mass.) assisted on three of Medla’s goals and had five overall. She also scored a goal. Her assists moved her into third place on Ithaca’s career list.
 
Senior Meagan Howell (Newark/Newark) tallied four goals and four ground balls. Freshman Catherine Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls), and sophomores Lauren Fitzgerald (William H. Hall/West Hartford Conn.), Sarah Cox (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls), and Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus Ohio) all registered a goal each. McClure also had an assist.
 
Senior goalie Emily Brooks (Ward Melville/Setauket) played every minute in goal and made three saves to earn the win, improving her record to 6-6.
 
The Bombers’ next action will be on Tuesday as they host William Smith at 5 p.m. at Carp Wood Field for senior day. Ithaca will face top-seeded Nazareth on Saturday in the first round of the Empire 8 Championship Tournament.
