Late Goal Earns Tie for #11 Bombers

Koppel's third goal of the season came late in the second half.

Canton, N.Y. – The #11 Bomber women's soccer team (9-1-2) rallied for a 1-1 tie at St. Lawrence (10-1-3) Saturday. Senior Lauren Koppel (Southside/Rockville Center) scored with 2:53 remaining in the second half to knot the score and force overtime.

St. Lawrence opened the scoring in the eighth minute to take the lead. It was the first goal allowed by Ithaca in 564 minutes, 46 seconds dating back to a 4-1 win over the Rochester Institute of Technology on Sept. 20.

Koppel's game-tying goal was her third goal of the season and it was unassisted. It capped a determined second-half effort by the Bombers during which they outshot St. Lawrence 19-0 in the half. Each team had four shots in overtime. Ithaca sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Sotomayor (East Brunswick/East Brunswick, N.J.) made six saves in the game, including two in overtime.

The Bombers are unbeaten in nine straight games and begin a three-game stretch of Empire 8 contests against St. John Fisher at 4 p.m. Wednesday on Carp Wood Field.
