Men's Soccer Downs Manhattanville at Mayor's Cup, 5-2

Oneonta, N.Y. – The men’s soccer team defeated Manhattanville 5-2 at the Mayor’s Cup, hosted by Oneonta. Senior midfielder Ryan Cole (Bishop Ludden/Liverpool) netted the game-winner in the 50th minute when he one-timed a feed from senior midfielder Matt DuBois (Westbrook/Westbrook, Maine) for his first goal of the season.
 
The Bomber (3-0) took the lead for good at 2-1 in the 42nd minute when senior back Matt Peckham (Ridgefield/Ridgefield, Conn.) scored the first of four consecutive Ithaca goals off a corner kick with 3:20 remaining in the first half. Freshman midfielder Jeff Geyer (Rham/Hebron, Conn.) assisted on the play. Junior forward Kurt Odenbach (McQuaid Jesuit/Webster) put the Bombers ahead 1-0 10:28 into the contest with his second tally of the season and the Valiants (1-2) answered just 2:28 later to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Sophomore midfielder Gerard Lewis (Scotia-Glenville-Scotia) and sophomore back Jeff South (Aptos/Aptos, Calif.) added goals in the 52nd minute and 73rd minute, respectively, to give the Bombers a 5-1 lead. Manhattanville scored with 8:52 remaining for the 5-2 final.
 
Junior keeper Andy Wilhelm (Centennial/Ellicott City, Md.) made five saves with one goal allowed in 78:40 to improve to improve to 3-0-0 on the year. Freshman keeper Greg Miller (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) played the final 11:20 in goal.
 
Ithaca returns to action Sunday against the host Red Dragons at 4 p.m.
