Bombers Fall to Gettysburg in NCAA Quarterfinal, 11-5

Craig Lepiane scored twice for the Bombers.
Gettysburg, Pa. -- The eighth-ranked men's lacrosse team fell to second-ranked Gettysburg, 11-5, in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship Tournament. The Bombers finished the season with a record of 16-4.
 
Ithaca scored twice in the first two-minutes of the game to take an early 2-0 lead. Junior attack Matt Nelligan (Pingree School/Rowley, Mass.) got the Bombers on the board 1:10 into the game and junior midfielder Craig Lepiane (West Irondequoit/Rochester) scored 49-seconds later, both were unassisted. The Bullets (16-2) took over from there, scoring each of the final 10 first-half goals to take a 10-2 lead at halftime.
 
Ithaca’s scoreless steak ended on a goal from junior attack Tim Pfeffer (Penfield/Penfield) at 13:26 of the third quarter with an assist from junior midfielder Kevin Bush (Arapahoe [Colo.]/East Point, Fla.). Sophomore Mike Giunta (B. Reed Henderson/West Chester, Pa.) scored midway through the third from Bush to cut the deficit to 10-4. Lepiane scored his second goal of the game, a man-up goal, with 6:14 to go in the game and the Bullets capped the scoring 2:09 later for the
11-5 final
 
Senior goalie Dennis Butler (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) made 17 saves in taking the loss, giving him 260 for the season and 833 for his career. Both are school records.
