#7 Men's Lacrosse Downs Alfred, 16-4

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The seventh-ranked men's lacrosse team recorded a 16-4 victory over Alfred Saturday afternoon to improve to 10-2 on the season, 3-0 in Empire 8 play. Ithaca extended its conference record to 19 consecutive Empire 8 wins.
 
Sophomore Mike Cintineo (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) lead the team with a career-high seven points, with a career-high five goals and two assists, while junior Matt Nelligan (Pingree School/Rowley, Mass.) registered three goals and two assists. Sophomore Matt Ruhnke (Brien McMahon/Norwalk, Conn.) had a career-high two assists.
 
Ithaca took the lead for good on Cintineo's 18th goal of the season, 4:09 into the game, and junior Brandon Rose (Rush-Henrietta/Rochester) assisted on the goal. After Alfred's second goal cut Ithaca's lead to 3-2, the Bombers went on a 9-0 run over the next 12:52 to put the game out of reach. 
 
Ithaca won 22 of 23 faceoffs and collected a season-high 64 ground balls. The Bombers also forced a season-high 28 turnovers and registered a season-high 17 caused turnovers.
 
Junior Tim Gustus (Rivers School/Wayland, Mass.) tallied his first goal of the season at 10:44 of the fourth quarter. Freshman Nick Neuman (West/Madison, Wis.) recorded his second goal of the season to cap the scoring with 1:24 left in the contest. Freshman Mike Lohan (Sanford H. Calhoun/Merrick) recorded his first collegiate point with an assist on sophomore Dwight Weld's (East Chapel Hill/Chapel Hill, N.C.) third goal of the season.
 
Senior Dennis Butler (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) made five saves in the win, and sophomore Ben Connery (Homer/Homer) made one save. Sophomore Collin Meadow (Downingtown East/Downingtown, Pa.) also appeared in goal for 5:22 without facing a shot on goal.
 
Ithaca travels to second-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday, April 11 for a 4 p.m. Empire 8 match-up.
