Men’s Lacrosse Falls To Sixth-Ranked Cortland

Doug Lumb matched a career-high with four points.
ITHACA, N.Y. The sixth-ranked Red Dragons scored seven straight goals in the third and fourth quarters to defeat the Bombers 15-10.
 
Senior Doug Lumb (Auburn/Auburn) and sophomore Mike Nowak (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) matched career-highs with four and three points, respectively. Lumb recorded two goals and two assists while Nowak added a goal and two assists. Sophomore Matt Nelligan (Pingree School/Rowley, Mass.) and freshman Mike Cintineo (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) each scored three goals to lead the Bombers. Junior Kyle Golden (Ossining/Briarcliff Manor) recorded his first goal of the season and freshman Mike Giunta (B. Reed Henderson/West Chester, Pa.) added an assist.
 
Junior Dennis Butler (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) made 17 saves.
 
After the Bombers (5-3) scored the first goal of the game, the Red Dragons (6-2) scored six of the next seven goals to take a 6-2 lead. Ithaca would respond by scoring the next four goals against Cortland, who entered the game ranked ninth in Division III in scoring defense. Cortland ended the first half with an 8-7 advantage. The Bombers struck first in the second half to tie the game at 8 only to see the Red Dragons score the next seven goals and take a 15-8 lead.
 
The Bombers resume Empire 8 play on Saturday as they travel to Alfred for a 1 p.m. game.
