Men's Swimming & Diving Loses At Cortland

Josh Tayrien was Ithaca's top finisher

Cortland, N.Y.-- The men's swimming & diving team lost at Cortland 168.5-70.5. Senior Josh Tayrien (Chaparral/Paradise Valley, Ariz.) was the top performer for Ithaca, finishing second in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle with times of 1:50.79 and 5:05.61 respectively.

Other top finishers for the Bombers included senior Mark Tedeschi (Orchard Park/Orchard Park), who took second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.99, and third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.85, junior Scott Wilson (Springville Griffith Institute/Springville), who finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:39.94 and third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.61, and freshman Garret Westerhoff (Kennelon/Kennelon, N.J.), who finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 23.48 and 53.14 respectively.
 
Sophomore Ryan Wright (Methacton/Norristown, Pa.) finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.25. Senior Jason Mitchell (Southside/Pine City) finished third in that race, clocking in at 2:11.68. Senior Charles Suozzi (Guilford/ Guilford, Conn.) was Ithaca’s top finisher in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing third with a time of 2:06.38. Freshman Matt Carolan (Northampton Area/Walnutport, Pa.) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.23, and helped the 400-yard medley team that included Suozzi, Tedeschi and sophomore Shane Hamman (Henderson/Westchester, Pa.) finish second with a time of 3:45.96. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Tayrien, sophomore Mike Biennia (Iroquois/East Aurora) senior Shea O’Neill (Lower Merion/Baal Cindy, Pa.) and senior Adam Weber (Mechanicsburg Area/Mechanicsburg, Pa.) finished second with a time of 3:26.49.
 
Freshman Andrew Longcore (Red Hook/Red Hook) was the Bombers’ top diver, finishing third in the one-and three-meter diving with 154.40 and 137.50 points respectively. 
 
Ithaca returns to action Saturday, hosting Division II Bloomsburg at 1 p.m.
