Bombers Split Doubleheader With Hartwick

Ithaca, N.Y. -- Ithaca opened conference play by splitting a doubleheader with visiting Hartwick, losing game one 3-2 and winning the nightcap 16-4. In the opener the Hawks scored three unearned runs for the win, including one in the top of the seventh after the Bombers had tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI by senior outfielder Ben McBride (Ridgefield/Ridgefield, Conn.). Senior Tom O’Connor (Weedsport/Weedsport) struck out two in the complete game and did not allow an earned run.

In the nightcap freshman catcher Rob Raux (Frankfort/Ilion) hit a single, double and triple, scored four runs and drove in three. Junior first baseman PJ Canestrari (Randolph/Ironia, N.J.) drove in four runs.
Sophomore outfielder Eric Maya (Rome Free Academy/Rome) collected two hits and drove in two runs and freshman Eric Ferguson (Columbia/East Greenbush) added two hits and two runs. Freshman Kyle Sottung (Pulaski/Pulaski) improved to 3-0, allowing four hits over six innings and striking out a career-high 10.
