Bombers Shine On Third Day Of UNYSCSA Championships

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's swimming & diving team stands in first place for the third-straight day at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships and Empire 8 Championships meets. The Bombers totaled 965 points through the third-of-four competition days, edging out Stevens Institute of Technology's second place total of 898 points.

Ithaca had its strongest showing in the 100-yard backstroke, as three Bombers placed in the top four finishes. Freshman Grace Ayer finished first with a time of 57.59, ranking second in program history and meeting the NCAA B qualifying standard. Junior Megan Buisman also hit a NCAA B cut and placed second with a time of 57.67, while classmate Kylie Bangs placed fourth with a time of 57.88. Buisman's finish marked the third fastest time in program history, while Bangs' ranked fourth.

The Bombers also finished first in the 800-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Ayer, Erin Hackett, Buisman and Elizabeth Gawrys took the top spot with a time of 7:44.61. The finish earned the group all-state honors, and marked the third fastest finish in Bomber history.

Junior Lyndsay Isaksen paced the Ithaca women in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing eight overall with a time of 2:13.00 to earn an all-state selection. Sophomore Meredith Wells and freshman Aleksa Lapinas rounded out the A-Final for the women in the 100-yard breaststroke. Wells took seventh with a time of 1:08.18, while Lapinas placed eighth with a time of 1:08.28.
