ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team (16-21) dropped a pair of matches Saturday in the Gold Bracket of the Dig Pink Invitational. The Bombers fell to host Oneonta (17-18), 3-1 (25-15, 12-25, 25-23, 25-17), before suffering a 3-1 (25-16, 27-29, 25-17, 25-13) setback to Plattsburgh (16-13). Senior

The Red Dragons jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first set, but the Bombers answered pulling within one, 8-7. The host squad pieced together a 10-4 streak as it powered to a 25-15 first-set win. Ithaca dominated the second. The Bombers started the set on a 13-2 run and never looked back. It led 22-5, though Oneonta scored six of the next seven to earn double digits, 23-11. A Bean kill on a Garone pass evened the series, 1-1. The third frame was knotted on nine occasions. Ithaca snapped a 4-4 deadlock to lead 9-5, but Oneonta responded to take a 10-9 advantage. The set then bounced back-and-forth with the Red Dragons securing an indefinite lead following a 20-all tie to seal a 25-23 win. Oneonta powered to an 8-2 gap in the fourth, but Ithaca snuck within 12-10 to force an Oneonta timeout. Four points later, Ithaca burned a timeout of its own after getting down, 16-10. The Red Dragons scored six of the next eight for a double-digit, 22-12 edge, en route to a 25-17 final. It was Oneonta's second victory against the Blue & Gold this season.
In the second match of the day, Duryea led the Bombers with 10 kills and Schmidt chipped in nine. Sophomore

Claiming their second victory over the Bombers in 2013, the Cardinals cracked a 10-10 tie to lead 19-16 and closed out the opening set with six straight. Ithaca battled in the second to claim a 29-27 come-from-behind victory. It was deadlocked 14 times, lastly at 27-all. A pair of Plattsburgh attack errors finalized the set in Ithaca's favor. The Cardinals countered in the third and fourth, taking the sets 25-17 and 25-13. The third game was at a 10-10 standstill before Plattsburgh forced an Ithaca timeout with a 10-4 run on its way to outscoring Ithaca 15-7 down the stretch. The final set opened in the Cardinals' favor, 14-5, and stayed that way. They once allowed Ithaca within six points, 14-8, but surged to end the match, 25-13. The victory was Plattsburgh's sixth straight.
The Bombers will travel to Hoboken, N.J. for the Empire 8 Championship Tournament Nov. 9-10. They will face the top-seeded Ducks in semifinal action Saturday.
