Tyler Burdorff finished his second year as the Assistant Coordinator of Facilities, Events and Equipment and Assistant Track & Field Coach in 2019-2020.

As Assistant Coordinator of Facilities, Events, and Equipment, Burdorff assists in facility management of the Athletics & Events Center and Higgins Stadium. He manages the daily laundry and equipment operations of 14 of Ithaca’s varsity sports and works game operations for Field Hockey, Soccer, Volleyball, Wrestling, Track & Field, Tennis, and Lacrosse.

In his second year leading the throws, Burdorff coached his first NCAA Championships Qualifier in sophomore Luke Tobia, who entered the championships ranked 8th in the weight throw with a school record mark of 18.50m/60’ 8.5”. Unfortunately, Luke was not able to compete due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which also cancelled the 2020 outdoor season. Including Tobia, the Ithaca throws squad ended the 2020 indoor season with 4 different throwers ranked in the Top 25 in the country.  Seniors Kendall Wellauer and Harrison Buttrick ended the season ranked 22nd and 24th in the weight throw, while junior Ariyahna Bernard worked her way up to 23rd in the shot put. Burdorff helped coach two Liberty League Champions and Atlantic Region Champions (Tobia, Wellauer) in the weight throw and his throwers helped contribute 63 points to the first place team scores at the Liberty League Championships.

In 2018-19, Burdorff helped tutor four Liberty League Champions (Lee Matthews, indoor/outdoor shot put & Kendall Wellauer, weight/hammer throw).  His athletes helped both teams capture the Indoor Liberty League Championships by accumulating a total of 74 points in the throws. At the outdoor championships, the throwers helped attribute to a 1st and 2nd place team finish for the women and men, respectively, with 64 points. Burdorff also assisted in the throws development of first year multi-eventer Logan Bruce, who finished 11th at the Indoor and Outdoor NCAA Championships in the Pentathlon and Heptathlon.

Burdorff came to back to Ithaca after serving as a volunteer Track & Field Coach at Cornell University in 2017-18 while finishing his Master’s degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences at Ithaca College. During his time at Cornell, Burdorff worked with the school record-holder, NCAA Regional qualifier and Indoor/Outdoor Ivy League Champion in the women’s shot put, and two Ivy League Runner-ups in the men’s shot put and women’s weight throw.

In 2016-17 as a graduate assistant, Burdorff assisted in the development of Brandy Smith and Larry Cass III.  Cass III set the school record in the hammer throw in his last meet as a Bomber, throwing 55.58m/182’4”. Smith finished her stellar career in 2017 with four All-American finishes including a runner-up finish in the shot put indoors and her third national title in the discus. Smith is the current school record holder in the discus, indoor & outdoor shot put, weight throw and hammer throw.  She also ranks 3rd All-time in Division III in the discus with a mark of 53.00m/173’11”.

Burdorff is a 2016 graduate of Baldwin Wallace University, where he majored in Exercise Science and Pre-Physical Therapy.  While at BW, Burdorff competed in football and track & field from 2012-16. Burdorff was a three-year starter at linebacker for the football team, and was a team captain and the Ray E. Watts Defensive Player of the Year his senior year.

Competing for the track & field team at BW, Burdorff was a very accomplished student-athlete. His senior year, he was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and the Indoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year by USTFCCCA. He was a two-time NCAA Division III All-American in the hammer and weight throw, after finishing as NCAA Runner-up in both events in 2016. Burdorff was also a four-time Ohio Athletic Conference Champion, garnering a total of 11 All-OAC honors in his career.

Burdorff holds a USATF Level I Certification as well as a Throws Event Specialist Certification and Strength & Conditioning Certification from the USTFCCCA.

Burdorff is a native of Leroy, Ohio.
