Biography

2011: Kersey, the Empire 8 Runner of the Year, competed in six races as a graduate student. The Empire 8 champion, she was named Runner of the Meet, while also earning First-Team All-NYSCTC with a seventh-place finish and NCAA All-Atlantic Region with a 23rd-place finish. She recorded season-best times of 15:48.20 in the 4,000-meter run, 18:26.00 in the 5,000 and 22:52.00 in the 6,000. Kersey was named Empire 8 Runner of the Week on Oct. 31.

2010: Kersey competed in eight races during her senior season. Ranking second on the team in each of the three races, she recorded season-best performances of 15:40.80 in the 4,000-meter run at Cortland’s Jack Daniels Invitational, 18:07.00 in the 5,000 run at the NYSCTC Championships to earn first-team all-state honors and 22:53.60 in the 6,000 run at Oberlin’s Inter-regional Rumble. Kersey placed 18th at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships to earn all-region accolades and finished second to teammate Heidi Baumbach at the Empire 8 Championships to collect first-team all-conference honors.

2009: Kersey earned second-team all-Empire 8 honors where she finished 14th overall with a time of 19:09. She also finished in 12th place at the Cazenovia Homecoming Invitational with a time of 23:19.

2008: Kersey was one of Ithaca's top-seven runners four times as a sophomore. She earned second-team all-Empire 8 honors by virtue of finishing 14th overall at the conference championship at 19:34. Kersey's season-best time was 19:25 at Hamilton, where she placed 26th.

2007: Kersey competed in nine races as a freshman, recording five top-20 finishes. She was the top freshman finisher at the Empire 8 Championships, placing 11th with a time of 19:05. She was later named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year. Kersey recorded a season-best 6,000-meter time of 23:47 at Lehigh and placed 12th in the Houghton Highlander Invitational.

High School: A 2007 graduate of Sandy Creek Central High School, Kersey was coached by Jim Pelton. She was a four-year letter winner as a member of the cross country team and was a two-time state qualifier. An all-league performer, Kersey was named team MVP and won the individual league title. She also lettered as a member of the basketball and track & field teams.

Personal: A physical therapy major, she is the granddaughter of Leata Kersey.
