2009-10: During the indoor season of his junior year, Karkuff competed once setting a season-best time of 9:09.79 in the 3,000-meter run. Competing in the 1,500 and 5,000 runs outdoors, Karkuff recorded season bests of 4:11.21 and 15:47.41, respectively.

2008-09: Karkuff was a member of the distance medley team that won the indoor Empire 8 Championships with a time of 10:48.49. They finished nearly 14 seconds ahead of the runner-up. The relay team also earned all-NYSCTC honors with a fourth-place showing at the state meet. Individually, Karkuff earned a second all-state honor by placing seventh in the 3,000 run with a time of 8:50.45. He qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 3,000, placing 14th overall. Outdoors, Karkuff was third in the Empire 8 in the 5,000 run with a time of 15:30.06.

2007-08: Karkuff finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run at the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships with a season-best time of 15:54. He also placed 23rd at the NYSCTC Outdoor Championships in the event. He also competed in the 1,500 run during the outdoor season, with a season-best time of 4:11 coming at the Big Red Invitational. At the indoor state meet, Karkuff finished 15th in the mile run with a time of 4:33.

High School: Karkuff is a 2007 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School.

Personal: A biology major, he is the son of Gary and Karen Karkuff. He is also a member of Ithaca's cross country team.
