Kavanaugh is in his first season as an assistant coach with the men’s swimming and diving program. An All-American swimmer at Ithaca, Kavanaugh holds school records in the 100-yard backstroke (52.41), 200-yard individual medley (1:55.83) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:09.04). He was a member of the 400-yard medley relay (3:29.78) and the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:56.28) teams that set school records last season. Kavanaugh also ranks third all-time at Ithaca in the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.66), fifth in the 200-yard butterfly and ninth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:08.94). He was a member of five relays that are in the top five all-time at Ithaca.
Kavanaugh was a member of the all-American 800-yard freestyle relay team last season. During his four-year career at Ithaca he was a nine-time UNYSCSA champion and a 13-time Empire 8 champion. He was named Empire 8 Swimmer of the Meet in 2002 and 2004. Kavanaugh earned UNYSCSA all-academic honors last season.
Kavanaugh is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in art education at Ithaca.
