Ithaca College Athletics

Mike Burton rejoined the Ithaca staff as the Bombers’ head junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach in 2002.

Burton returned to the men’s basketball coaching staff after serving eight years as the head coach of the Trumansburg girls’ varsity basketball team. Burton was the assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach at Ithaca from 1982 to 1995. During his tenure the Bombers made three NCAA appearances. While at Trumansburg he coached the Raiders to Section IV Class C championships in 1996-97 and 1997-98, advancing to the New York state final four in 1997-98. Burton was also an assistant coach for the girls’ scholastic division of the Empire State Games. His teams won the silver medal in 2000 and the gold medal in 2001. 

Burton received his bachelor’s degree in 1971 from Utica College and a master’s degree from Niagara University in 1975.
