Maureen Ordnung joined the field hockey program as an assistant coach in 2015 after a one-year stint at Wilkes University. She completed her 10th season on the IC staff in 2024, and in the summer of 2022, she was promoted to associate head coach. Ordnung, along with head coach Kaitlyn Wahila, were named Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year in 2021 and 2023.
The Bombers put together back-to-back historic season in 2023 and 2024. During the 2024 campaign, IC claimed its first-ever conference championship and went undefeated in Liberty League play en route to a 15-6 record. Ithaca was one of the best defensive teams in the country, allowing less than a goal per game, and finished the year ranked 13th in goals against average. Three players were named all-region, while Bella McCollister repeated as the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year and NFHCA Second Team All-American. Natalie Descalso, Meara Bury and Emma Garver were named all-region.
The 2023 season ended with a 15-7 record. IC posted the third-most wins in school history and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000. The Bombers won their first NCAA game against Endicott, 3-2 in overtime, which was the first for the program since 1997. Bella McCollister was named Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, as well as Second Team All-American by the NFHCA. Natalie Descalso and Meara Bury were all-region selections.
In 2022, Ithaca finished the year with a 14-4 record and reached the Liberty League semifinals. The Bombers were one of the best defensive units in the nation, as IC only allowed 14 all season to rank eighth in goals against average. The Bombers also possessed the fifth-best save percentage in Division III as Macy Brandwein was named a Second Team All-American by the NFHCA.
During the 2021 season, Ithaca posted a 14-5 overall record and won the Liberty League regular season title, earning hosting rights for the postseason championship. The Bombers were receiving votes in the NFHCA Top 20 Poll for a majority of the year. Five players were named All-Liberty League, while three of those went on to be named NFHCA All-Region. The postseason accolades continued into December, as Jacqueline Mirabile was named a Third Team All-American to become the 29th All-American in program history.Â
Ordnung helped the Bombers to their first Liberty League Tournament berth during the 2019 campaign. The Bombers posted a 12-7 record, which included a program-best 6-1 mark in league play. As goalie coach, she helped Savanna Lenker earn Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Year honors, as well as All-Liberty League and NFHCA All-Region praise.
Ordnung played a big role in the transition of the IC program from long-time former head coach Tracey Houk to new head coach Kaitlyn Wahila during the 2017 campaign. Under Wahila's direction, Ordnung helped usher in new tactical methods as the team transitioned from the Empire 8 to the Liberty League in 2017. She helped the program to a 7-10 record in the first season of Liberty League competition. Ordnung helped coach three players to All-Liberty League honors, which included her primary work with keeper Savanna Lenker who was an Honorable Mention selection.
In 2016, she helped guide the Bombers to an 8-7 overall record, which included a 5-3 record in conference play. Ordnung helped coach five players to Empire 8 All-Conference recognition, headlined by Colleen Keegan-Twombly who earned NFHCAÂ All-Region honors as well.
Ordnung, along with head coach Tracey Houk, were named Empire 8 Conference Coaching Staff of the Year in 2015. The Bombers posted a 13-5 overall record in 2015 and clinched the top seed for the conference tournament for the first time in program history. In the semifinals of the tournament, Ithaca topped Washington & Jefferson, 2-0, for its first win in the conference playoffs.
While at Wilkes, Ordnung helped the Lady Colonels to a 9-9 record and placed four athletes on the Freedom All-Conference Team. Ordnung also helped nine Lady Colonels earn spots on the NFHCA Academic Squad.
Prior to Wilkes, Ordnung was an assistant coach at East Stroudsburg North High School. She also currently serves as a coach and goalkeeping specialist for the KaPow Field Hockey Klub, a position she’s held since 2012.
As a player, Ordnung was a standout goalkeeper at East Stroudsburg University. She was a two-time team MVP, and served as a team captain in her senior season. Ordnung, a two-time All-PSAC selection, was named East Stroudsburg’s Female Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2012.
Ordnung graduated from East Stroudsburg with a degree in mathematics. She completed her master’s degree in sport management at East Stroudsburg in 2015.Â
