2019-20 ECWC All-Academic Team

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) officially published its annual list of All-Academic Team selections for the 2019-20 season on Friday afternoon. The conference honored 56 wrestlers in this season’s release, marking the second consecutive year that the All-Academic Team topped the 50-mark.
 
Recipients of this honor must have a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher (through the last eligible grading period of the current academic year), or have maintained a 3.30-or-better over the past two completed semesters. Wrestlers must also have competed in three separate events during the season in order to gain consideration. Freshmen and transfers that have been enrolled full-time for at least one semester are eligible to receive this honor.
 
For a second consecutive season, it was the Rochester Institute of Technology that led the way among the seven conference affiliates. The Tigers posted 16 grapplers on the All-Academic Team this season, besting last year’s total of 13. RIT’s honorees were: Austin Bourgeois (Fr.), Andrew DiBernardo (Fr.), Colby Giroux (Fr.), Austin Lamb (Fr.), Nate Osborne (Fr.), James Ost (Fr.), Nathan Parker (Fr.), Chris Horton (So.), Ian Houck (So.), Jakob Warner (Jr.), Owen Albanese (Sr.), Dempsey King (Sr.), Joe Lupisella (Sr.), Cole Murphy (Sr.), Isaiah Ocasio (Sr.), and Chris St. Denny (Sr.).
 
Several Tigers were repeats on the list. The announcement marked the third time that both Albanese and Warner made the All-Academic Team list. Additionally, the Tigers had two-time honorees in Horton, Houck, King, Lupisella, and St. Denny.
 
Ithaca was next in terms of team total with 12 honorees making the cut for a second consecutive year. The list of Bombers included: Matthew Beyer (Fr.), Travis Jones (Fr.), Adrian Rosario-Beato (Fr.), Matt Griffin (So.), Logan Ninos (So.), Tristen Schiafo (So.), Sam Schneider (R-So.), Adam Wagner (Jr.), Ben Brisman (Sr.), Tito Colom (Sr.), Dalton Elias (Sr.), and Austin Whitney (R-Sr.).
 
Six of Ithaca’s honorees were repeats on the list. Leading the way was Ben Brisman and Austin Whitney who both took home the honors for a fourth consecutive season. Dalton Elias was a three-time selection on the list, while Logan Ninos, Tito Colom and Sam Schneider earned placement for a second time.
 
SUNY Oneonta ranked third among ECWC programs, posting eight wrestlers on the list for a second straight season. The Red Dragons list of honorees included: Steven Bilali (So.), Tyler Skala (So.), Eric Brach (Jr.), Jacob Mansman (Jr.), Michael Savello (Jr.), Matthew Shield (Jr.), Thomas Marrone (Sr.), and Timothy Rathbun (Sr.).
 
Four from Oneonta were repeat honorees. Michael Savello and Eric Brach led the way in the announcement, marking the third time both have appeared on the list. Jacob Mansman and Thomas Marrone both earned placement for a second straight year.
 
SUNY Cortland was right on Oneonta’s tail with seven honorees on the list. Cortland’s list included: Dylan Dubuque (So.), Charles Buckley (Jr.), Rick Chastine (Jr.), Matt Maquet (Jr.), Pat Owens (Jr.), Jeremy Pond (Jr.), and Ben Lloyd (Sr.). The Red Dragons had three repeat honorees. Both Ben Lloyd and Matt Maquet earned their place on the team for a third consecutive year, while Jeremy Pond gained praise for a second straight year.
 
Brockport posted six wrestlers on the list in 2019-20. Representing the Golden Eagles were: Samuel Grey (Fr.), Austin Reed (So.), Nicholas Robbins (So.), Kole Taylor (So.), Matthew Caccamise (Jr.), and John Cantwell (Jr.). Like fellow SUNY programs Oneonta and Cortland, Brockport also had three repeat honorees. John Cantwell, Austin Reed and Kole Taylor all earned placement for a second straight season.
 
Alfred State saw a substantial increase from last season to this year, improving from a lone wrestler in 2018-19 to four grapplers making the All-Academic Team list this year. The list of Pioneers included: Cale Bartosch (Fr.), Blake Ilges (Fr.), Paul Knapp (Fr.), and Kyle Fitzgerald (Jr.). All were first-time honorees for the program.
 
Oswego State finished the year with three representatives on the All-Academic Team. The Lakers list was comprised of Logan Lauck (Fr.), Nicolai Celestain (So.), and Caleb Beach (Jr.). Celestain was a repeat honoree, earning selection for a second straight year.
