2011-12: Mahon won his first ECWC title to earn a return trip to nationals. At the conference meet he pinned his first opponent and recorded a shutout in the semifinals before winning the championship with a one-point overtime decision on tiebreaker criteria. Mahon went 1-2 at the NCAA Championships, dropping decisions to the third and fourth seeds. He led the team in falls for the third year in a row and became Ithaca’s career leader, raising his total to 55. Mahon’s 25 victories were one short of his career best and raised his total to 90. He earned all-state honors with a seventh-place showing at the NYS Championships. Mahon opened the season by placing second at the Ithaca Invitational and won the heavyweight title at York’s New Standard Corporation Invitational for the second straight year.
2010-11: Mahon made his first trip to the NCAA Championships, earning a wild-card bid to nationals following his runner-up finish at the ECWC meet. Mahon picked up 15 of his 21 victories by fall; that total matched the program’s fourth-highest single-season figure. Mahon placed fourth at the New York State Championships, earning all-state recognition for the second year in a row. He won his first career tournament title, placing first at York’s New Standard Corporate Invitational, and finished fifth at Cornell’s Body Bar Invitational.
2009-10: Mahon recorded a school-record 19 pins, earning falls in 73 percent of his victories. He went 10-1 in dual-match competition. He was named ECWC Wrestler of the Week after pinning a pair of opponents from RIT and Oswego. Mahon opened the season with a runner-up finish at the Ithaca Invitational, collecting two pins and a major decision before losing by a point to the nation’s 10th-ranked wrestler in the final. Mahon earned all-state recognition with a fifth-place finish at the New York State Championships. He placed third at York’s Spartan Classic, helping the Bombers win the team title.
2008-09: Mahon was a place-winner in four tournaments as a freshman, with a top finish of second at the JCC Open. He opened the season by taking fourth at the Ithaca Invitational and placed third at Alfred State and fifth at the Sunshine Open. He was one of three Bomber newcomers to win at least 19 bouts and his nine pins ranked third on the team. Mahon was a winner by fall in his first dual meet.
High School: A 2008 graduate of Brighton High School, Mahon was coached by Brian Darling. He placed third at the Empire State Games in the Greco-Roman and freestyle competition.
Personal: A writing major, he is the son of Ann Marie Mahon.
