Biography

2011-12: Ecker capped his career by becoming the program’s first two-time national champion. Seeded first at the NCAA Championships he cruised through the bracket, pinning his semifinal opponent and recording an 8-0 major decision in the title bout (he was the only wrestler at nationals to blank his opponent in the finals). Ecker finished the season 30-4 and posted a career record of 108-20, good for ninth on Ithaca’s all-time victory list. He was named Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Wrestler of the Year, becoming the first two-time winner of that award and won Ithaca’s Ben Light Award as the top male athlete in his senior class. Ecker claimed the ECWC title for the third time and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the season-opening Ithaca Invitational. He was named a first-team academic all-American for the second year in a row and was voted the 2012 Men's At-Large Academic All-American of the Year – an award that encompasses student-athletes in fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Ecker was named to the ECWC All-Academic Team and was selected a National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar-Athlete. He was named to the Empire 8 Presidents’ List following the fall semester and spring semesters.

2010-11: Ecker became the program’s eighth individual NCAA champion, winning the 133-pound weight class. He finished 33-4 and closed the season by winning his last 12 bouts and 21 of his final 22; the only blemish was a one-point loss to a Division I opponent in the New York State semifinals. Ecker was named ECWC Wrestler of the Year and was the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the conference meet after earning his second ECWC title. Ecker also earned MOW honors at the York Invitational and was the runner-up at the Ithaca Invitational. A first-team academic all-American, he was also named to the District I All-Academic Team, the NWCA Scholar All-American Team and the ECWC All-Academic Team. His five technical falls led the Bombers and his 10 pins ranked second.

2009-10: Ecker won 22 matches as a sophomore, posting a perfect 10-0 record in dual-match competition. He opened the season with a fourth-place finish at the Ithaca Invitational and took sixth at Cornell’s Body Bar Invitational (where Ithaca was the only Division III school participating). Ecker ranked second on the team with four wins by technical fall and his eight pins were fourth. He also won twice by major decision. He was named an NWCA Scholar All-American and earned a spot on the inaugural ECWC All-Academic Team.

2008-09: An all-American and the ECWC Rookie of the Year, Ecker recorded the second-highest NCAA finish ever (sixth) by a Bomber freshman. The ECWC champion at 125 pounds – where he beat a 31-0 opponent in the final, he also earned titles at the Ithaca Invitational and New York State B Championships. Ecker was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Ithaca Invitational and was picked as D3wrestle.com’s first Wrestler of the Week. He was a two-time ECWC Rookie of the Week and the only freshman to win the conference’s Wrestler of the Week award. Ecker’s seven technical falls led the team; his 24 wins and seven pins were fourth and fifth, respectively.

High School: Ecker is a 2008 graduate of Pottstown High School.

Personal: A business administration major, he is the son of Aram Ecker and Danielle McCoy.
