CANTON, N.Y. - The Ithaca College softball team continued its strong run through Liberty League play on Friday afternoon, earning a doubleheader sweep over St. Lawrence. The Bombers took the opener 4-1 before securing a 5-2 victory in game two to improve to 7–1 in conference play and 16-7. Ithaca extended its winning streak against St. Lawrence to 16 consecutive games.
ITHACA 4, ST. LAWRENCE 1 (F)
After scoreless first two innings, the Bombers broke through in the top of the third.
Madison Schoenenberger reached base on catcher's interference and
Kailen Winkelblech drew a walk to put two runners aboard.
Cate Murray made the Saints pay, lining a two‑run double into left‑center field to give Ithaca a 2–0 lead.
The Bombers added another run later in the inning when
Haley Petrucci lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Murray to score and extend the advantage to 3–0.
St. Lawrence answered in the bottom of the third as Maeve Thompson worked a walk and Allison Kloft drove her home with an RBI triple to right‑center field, cutting the margin to 3–1. Ithaca's defense shut the door from there, preventing further damage.
An insurance run came in the sixth inning when Schoenenberger singled and later scored on a line‑drive RBI single from
Molly Gibson, pushing the lead to 4–1.
In the circle,
Mady Rowell was in control all afternoon. The right hander went the distance, striking out six while allowing just four hits to earn the complete game victory.
ITHACA 5, ST. LAWRENCE 2 (F)
The Bombers wasted no time in the nightcap, scoring twice in the opening inning. Schoenenberger and
Kailen Winkelblech reached base to begin the game before
Elise Waddington delivered an RBI single to center field. Moments later,
Isabella Maynard added an RBI single to give Ithaca an early 2–0 cushion.
Ithaca extended the lead in the third inning as Winkelblech led off with a single and Murray drove her in with an RBI double, making it 3–0.
St. Lawrence responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning when Emily Wendt singled and scored on an RBI hit from Kloft. The Bombers answered immediately in the fourth, however, putting together a decisive two‑run frame. Petrucci and
Anna Bello reached base before Schoenenberger delivered an RBI single. Waddington followed with her second run‑scoring hit of the game to stretch the lead to 5–1.
The Saints added a run late on an RBI single from Leah Verschneider, but the rally stalled as Ithaca closed out the 5–2 win.
Madison Collins earned the victory in game two, striking out nine batters over seven innings and allowing just four hits.
Anna Bello led all hitters with four hits across the doubleheader.
The Bombers will return to action Saturday, April 18, when they travel to take on Clarkson for another Liberty League doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
