CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Ithaca College golf program began its spring season this weekend as the Bombers made the short trip up to Cortland to play in the Martin/Wallace Invitational at the Cortland Country Club.
Ithaca won the 10-team tournament as the Bombers led after both rounds and finished with a two-day total of 642 (+66). Ithaca shot 315 (+27) on Saturday and 327 (+39) on Sunday to win the tournament by 38 strokes over Cortland and Union.
Annelise Stencel took top medalist honors with 153 (+9) as she went just three-over par (75) on Sunday to move ahead of teammate
Brianna Morrison on the final day. Stencel shot 78 (+6) on Saturday and carded four birdies – two each day – during the tournament.
Morrison was at the top of the leaderboard following Saturday's round with a 75 (+3) but fell back to fourth after an 82 (+10) on Sunday. During her Saturday round, Morrison fired a three-under 33 on the back nine as she holed five birdies. She finished up Sunday with one more birdie.
Helena Winterberg shot a pair of 83's for a two-round total of 166 (+22) to finish in a tie for sixth with teammate
Abby Bladen. Winterberg parred 19 holes over the weekend.
Bladen carded a 79 (+7) on Saturday and sat in fourth overall, but an 87 (+15) on Sunday dropped her back two spots. She finished up the weekend with one birdie.
Ithaca returns to action for a one-day tournament at Union College on April 25 and then travels to Rome, N.Y. for the Liberty League Championships on May 1-2.
