ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 25 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team battled through a back-and-forth contest at Higgins Stadium on Saturday afternoon against No. 17 Scranton, ultimately falling 15-14 in double overtime after a hard-fought performance. Ithaca suffered its first loss of the season and is now 3-1.
Ithaca controlled much of the pace throughout the game, outshooting their opponent 38-35 and dominating the draw circle with 19 draw controls, allowing the Bombers to generate consistent offensive opportunities.
After giving up the opening goal, Ithaca quickly settled into its offensive rhythm.
Kelly Augeri sparked the Bombers' attack, while
Kathryn Scallon,
Aubrey Holowinski, and
Leigh Naturale added key scores during a strong first-quarter stretch. The offensive surge helped Ithaca close the period with a 5-3 lead as the Bombers moved the ball effectively and capitalized on transition chances.
The Bombers continued their momentum in the second quarter, building their advantage behind balanced scoring and strong possession. Augeri recorded multiple goals in the half, while Naturale and Holowinski continued to pressure the defense as Ithaca extended its lead and carried a nine-goal output into halftime.
Ithaca maintained its intensity in the second half, highlighted by Holowinski's four-goal performance and another score from Naturale. Defensively, the Bombers created key turnovers and ground ball opportunities to limit extended possessions.
Phoebe Hosford played a strong defensive role, collecting seven ground balls and forcing five turnovers while
Gabrielle Crellin had five ground balls and four caused turnover that helped Ithaca regain possession and push the ball back into the attacking zone. Bombers' goalie

Trailing late in the fourth quarter, the Bombers showed resilience in the closing moments. With 39 seconds remaining, Scallon found the back of the net off an assist from Augeri to tie the game 14-14 and send it to overtime. After a scoreless first overtime period, the game moved to double overtime where the Bombers' comeback effort came up just short, as the visitors scored the sudden-death winner to hand Ithaca a 15-14 defeat in double overtime.
