Men’s Rowing Celebrate Senior Day on the Cayuga Inlet at the Ithaca Invite

4/6/2025 9:35:00 AM

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's rowing team celebrated Senior Day on the Cayuga Inlet on Saturday afternoon as the program raced against RIT, the University of Rochester, Marietta College and Williams College.

"The team has shown progress this past week, with several athletes returning from injury and illness, bringing the squad closer to full strength," said head coach Justin Stangel. "Despite ongoing weather challenges, the team has demonstrated resilience and determination, culminating in a successful day of racing. It was great to send the seniors off with their last race down the inlet and honor their four years here."

Varsity 8 Performance:
The Varsity 8 faced RIT in the first round, overcoming a shaky start to establish a strong rhythm and maintain their pace. Although RIT has had less water time, they are expected to improve as the Liberty League championships approach. In the second round against top-ranked Williams, the team had a promising start and held their ground for the first half. However, a slight falter in the third quarter affected the speed and caused the margin to grow, despite a strong sprint finish. On Saturday, the Bombers 1V consisted of Caroline Grass, Rhys Pellaton, Andrew Cheely, Bryce Williston, Liam Baker, Andrew Coit, Tynan Fields, Marshall Adams and Max Detzer.

Second Varsity 8 Success:
The Second Varsity 8 delivered a composed performance against RIT, executing their race plan effectively to secure a comfortable victory. In the subsequent race against Williams, while maintaining a good rhythm, the team faced consistency challenges compared to their earlier performance. The IC boat was Miles Kenaston, Nico Greenberg, Griffin Hunt, Brennen Mone, Nolyn Boswell, Henry Hersperger, Brodie Hart, Ethan Revis and Liam Carnahan.

Varsity 4+ (A) and (B) Highlights:
The Varsity 4+ (A) concluded the first session with races against RIT and Williams. Despite a gusty tailwind, they managed to stay ahead of RIT but were overtaken by Williams. The Varsity 4+ (B), with limited practice during the week, quickly gelled and put up a fierce fight against Williams, narrowly missing victory.

Upcoming Schedule:
The team looks forward to the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, on April 12 and 13, where they will continue to face top competition. Fans can rewatch the action from Saturday here and the complete results are here.
