ITHACA, N.Y. – With rain expected in Ithaca for the majority of this evening, the Ithaca College softball team bumped up the start of its doubleheader with the SUNY Geneseo Knights by half an hour on Wednesday afternoon. Ithaca scored early and often as they managed to run-rule the visitors in the first game winning 14-0 in five innings and the second game was called off in the top of the second as the field became unplayable. The Bombers improve to 12-3 overall with the non-conference win, while Geneseo falls to 10-4.

Anna Cornell got the call for the start in the circle of the first game and navigated through a hit and a hit batter in the first inning, striking out three to end the frame. The Bombers' offense quickly ignited in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on four hits off Knights starter Mikayla Bucci.
Jessie Lopez contributed an RBI, while
Belle de Oliveira and
Kailen Winkelblech each drove in two runs with their singles.
Cornell continued her dominance by striking out the side in the top of the second inning and punched out two more Knights in the third. The Bombers exploded for five more runs in the bottom half of the third inning, chasing Mikayla Bucci from the game.
Kailen Winkelblech was once again at the center of the rally, driving in two more runs with a single to center field.
Geneseo managed a hit from Lauren Babich, who singled to center field, but Cornell ended the inning by striking out Tara Brochu looking. The Bombers would make it 14-0 in the bottom of the fourth as
Elise Waddington drove in a pair on a hard-hit double to left field and driving in a run each were both
Cate Murray and
Jessie Lopez.
Anna Cornell would record two more strikeouts as she finished with 12, which matched her season high. The Bombers outhit the visitors 11-2 with
Kailen Winkelblech finishing 3-for-4 with four RBI and now has 12 on the season.
Due to further rain expected in Ithaca on Saturday, the Ithaca softball doubleheader home at Kostrinsky Field against Union College has been pushed up to Friday, April 4 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
