ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team battled two separate rain delays on Saturday, despite that junior catcher
Haley Petrucci had an explosive afternoon collecting five hits including a game two home run as the Bombers swept St. Lawrence. Ithaca picked up a 5-3 win, which included 15 strikeouts from
Anna Cornell and earned the sweep run-ruling the Saints, 10-2 in six innings. The Bombers improved to 20-5 overall and remain in second within the Liberty League at 8-2.
Game 1: Ithaca 5, St. Lawrence 3 (F)
Anna Cornell was locked in from the opening pitch, retiring the first two batters via strikeout before inducing a fly out from Allison Kloft. The Bombers lineup picked up where they left off on Friday, starting the bottom half of the first with a double from
Sela Scheinman. Scheinman scored on an
Elise Waddington single, and IC extended their lead to 2-0 when Waddington was driven in by a
Haley Petrucci double.
Kailen Winkelblech then drove in two more runs with a single through the middle of the infield.
Cornell continued to dominate, striking out the first and third batters of the second inning while recording a putout in between. She added two more strikeouts in the third inning, bringing her total to six.
Haley Petrucci collected her second hit of the afternoon with a one-out double in the gap but was left stranded to end the bottom of the third. The Saints' Vivian Johnson then hit a solo home run, making the score 4-1.
