Men’s Swimming & Diving Finish Second in the Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championships

ITHACA, N.Y. – The 2025 Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championships wrapped up on Saturday inside Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium as the four-day meet began with both an All-Academic and Senior parade and concluded with RIT earning its fourth-straight Liberty League title. The Tigers amassed 1,688 points and had a 164-point advantage over the Bombers who finished as the runner-up with 1,524.
 
It was an electric start to evening as a record was immediately broken with a championship meet record time of 15:57.71 swam by RIT's Josh Berty to win the 1,650 yard freestyle. He shattered a record that stood since the 2023 championship as Ithaca's Matthew Stevens finished in second with a finals time of 16:19.20 and James Kissel was third at 16:19.54.
 
RIT's Jason Weller repeated as the champion in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 1:49.17. The Bombers saw both Alec Kutsner and Evan Wardrop finish third and fourth, respectively with times of 1:52.31 and 1:52.46. In the 200-yard breaststroke, another Tiger swam to victory with Ben Sippel putting together a finals time of 2:03.17. Matthew Janssen was third at 2:06.12.
 
The 100-yard freestyle was won by RPI graduate student Mike Dowd with an NCAA B-cut time of 44:44. Ithaca's Matthew Mitros recorded a second-place finish touching the wall at 45.99 and fourth was Ryan Cooke who touched the final wall in 46.11.
 
RIT won the 400-yard freestyle relay, which was its fifth of the championship as they posted a time of 3:00.78. The Bombers would finish in second-place with Matthew Mitros, Alec Kutsner, Spencer Alderson and Ryan Cooke combining for a time of 3:03.76.
 
The Bombers will continue postseason events with regionally qualified divers first competing in the upcoming NCAA Regional slated to begin February 28-March 1, which will be hosted by Ithaca. This year's NCAA Championships will once again take place in Greensboro, N.C. and they take place March 19-22.
