ITHACA, N.Y. – Five-time Liberty League defending champions, Ithaca College, are primed and ready to defend their team title. The Bombers showcased their speed, depth, and diving talents, standing in an excellent position after the first day of competition. Hosting the conference championship meet at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium, the Bombers totaled 349 team points to lead nine other schools. Trailing IC are RPI (307), RIT (260), Skidmore College (188), and Vassar (119).
The first event of the meet was the 500-yard freestyle, won by Vassar's Addie Wiener with a finals time of 5:07.38. Ithaca's Ava Palfreyman (5:07.38) and Naomi Fry (5:08.15) finished second and third, respectively, earning valuable team points for the Bombers.
Sophomore Kathleen Papiernik showcased her talents by topping returning champion Shannon Brown in the 200-yard IM. Papiernik touched the final wall with a time of 2:06.10, pacing a competitive field. Brown finished second at 2:06.17, and fellow RPI Engineer, Coleen Whiteaker was third with a time of 2:06.41.
The Bombers had two swimmers finish in the top five of the 50-yard freestyle. Elke Beaumont, seeded second based on her morning preliminary time of 23.97, finished second with a time of 24.04, just behind RPI's Vera Korff (23.95). Sophomore Spencer Carroll placed fourth for Ithaca with a season-best time of 24.17.
In the first relay race of the 2025 Liberty League Championships, RIT scored 64 team points by finishing first in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:50.45, an NCAA B-cut. Ithaca's team of Elke Beaumont, Sydney Koehler, Kathleen Papiernik, and Samantha Bender finished third with a combined time of 1:45.91.

Day two of the 2025 Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championships continues on Thursday with swimming preliminaries at 10 a.m., diving preliminaries at 1 p.m., and finals for both at 6 p.m. The day will begin with the 400 IM, followed by the 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, and will conclude with the 200-yard freestyle relay. The women's 1-meter dive will also take place.
