ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team continued its dominant performance on the second day of the 14th Annual Bomber Invitational, widening its lead in the team standings with 1,436 points. The Bombers hold a slight advantage over the University of Rochester (1,331.5) and Vassar College (794) heading into the final day of competition.
Ithaca opened Friday's finals with a statement victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as the quartet of
Elke Beaumont,
Sydney Koehler,
Kathleen Papiernik, and
Spencer Carroll clocked 1:44.96 to take first place. The Bombers capped the evening with another relay win, posting 7:49.41 in the 800-yard freestyle relay behind strong swims from
Naomi Fry, Koehler,
Elizabeth Bodie, and
Samantha Bender.
Individually, Ithaca claimed multiple event titles:
Depth was on full display as Ithaca placed multiple swimmers in the top eight of nearly every event, including strong performances from
Erika Doran and
Mya Barbatsoulis in the 400-yard IM.
The Bombers return to the Athletics & Events Center pool tomorrow for the final day of competition on Saturday, presented by The Hotel Ithaca. The invitational will resume at 9 a.m. with prelims in the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and the 1,650 with the finals taking place in the evening at 6 p.m. Diving will get underway at 12:30 p.m. with the women competing on the 3-meter boards with the finals also taking place at 6 p.m. along with the 400-yard freestyle relay.
