ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men’s and women’s soccer programs have both started their respective seasons strong and recently had the chance to give back to the local youth during the second-ever “Field Day” at Cass Park.

The event, held on September 8, saw the Bombers’ soccer programs team up with the Ithaca Youth Bureau Recreation Department for the second consecutive year to offer a free soccer clinic. Around 70 kids participated in drills and games, learning fun exercises to practice at home and enjoying the opportunity to compete and interact with collegiate players. The participants were divided into different age groups, with younger kids focusing on basic skills and older groups engaging in more advanced drills.

“The purpose of the clinic is to allow the youth in our community a chance to interact with IC student-athletes,” said Gordon Begent, Program Coordinator at the Ithaca Youth Bureau Recreation Department.

“Coach Mindy Quigg and Coach Garret Eldridge really helped us get a kick start to our 2024 IYB rotary soccer program,” added Begent. “We really appreciated the student-athletes giving up their time, coming down to Cass Park, and being positive role models for young kids in the community.”

In addition to the clinic, the Ithaca men’s program has further collaborated with the Ithaca Youth Bureau by designating home games where Ithaca Youth Bureau kids can walk out onto the field with the players during the starting lineups and national anthem.

Both IC programs will be back in action with home games this week. The women’s team will host Alfred University at Carp Wood Field on Tuesday at 4 p.m., while the men’s team will face Cortland at Carp Wood Field on Wednesday, also at 4 p.m.
