No. 17 Field Hockey Blanks No. 9 York (Pa.), 1-0

ITHACA, N.Y. - It was a picture-perfect day at Higgins Stadium for the nationally ranked No. 17 Ithaca College women's field hockey game as they came away with a massive 1-0 victory over No. 9 York College on Special Event Awareness Day. This win improved the Bombers' record to 4-2 on the season and really proved to be statement win over the #9 ranked team in the country. For the Spartans, this was their first loss of the season in upset fashion as they now fall to 4-1 on the campaign.

Despite the low score, the first and only goal of the contest came less than two minutes into the contest as Meara Bury scored her first goal of the season assisted by Emma Garver to give the Bombers the lead. York was able to mount a strong push towards the end of the quarter, but nothing resulted, and the quarter came to an end 1-0.

The second and third quarter proved to be defensive standstills as both teams locked up on the back end and refused to give an inch. Maeve Clark made a save for Ithaca that proved to be huge and Sam Ward received a green card for York as the Spartans looked to push for the equalizer.

York continued their momentum into the fourth quarter as Clark added two more saves robbing Kelsey Welsh and Tori Heiserman who both had good looks to tie this game up. Natalie Descalso and Brady Sullivan both had late opportunities that had to be turned aside by Ainsley Grant for the Spartans but by that time, Ithaca had sealed the deal for the victory.

Outside of the Bury goal, this was a defensive shutdown effort for Ithaca as Calrk made three saves to go along with Desclaso's two shots on goal to lead the way for the Bombers.

Ithaca's next game will be on Saturday, September 18th when they travel to take on SUNY Brockport at 7:00pm.
