Ithaca Earns Nine Weekly Awards from Liberty League

Football Defensive Performer of the Week – Sam Tourangeau

Sam Tourangeau started off the 2024 season on a strong note as he recorded 13 total tackles, including one for a loss, two pass breakups, forced fumble and fumble recovery in a 27-23 loss to No. 8 Johns Hopkins. 

Football Special Teams Performer of the Week – Derek Baldin

Derek Baldin booted a 45-yard field goal and made two extra points in Ithaca's 27-23 loss to No. 8 Johns Hopkins. Baldin also averaged 62.8 yards on five kickoffs with two going for touchbacks.

Women's Golf Performer of the Week – Helena Winterberg

Helena Winterberg finished third overall with 150 (+6) at the Ithaca Invitational as 33 golfers were in action over the weekend. Winterberg shot 75 (+3) during both rounds with a total of five birdies. Ithaca won its second straight event of the season with two program record lows for 18 and 36 holes. 

Women's Golf Rookie of the Week – Madison Coffey

Madison Coffey was the runner-up at the Ithaca Invitational with 149 (+5) as 33 golfers were in action over the weekend. Coffey tied for the low round on Saturday with 75 (+3) and then shot 74 (+2) on Sunday. She carded 15 pars on Saturday and finished up with three birdies during her Sunday round. Ithaca won its second straight event of the season with two program record lows for 18 and 36 holes. 

Volleyball Performer of the Week – Wesley Slavin

In a 3-0 weekend for the Bombers each of which were sweeps, sophomore setter Wesley Slavin totaled 94 assists, including 30 or more against both Middlebury and St. John Fisher. She got the weekend started with 24 assists as well as a season-high three kills against the University of Rochester. She totaled 34 assists to go along with two more kills and a block solo against Middlebury and capped off the weekend with 36 assists and four digs against St. John Fisher.

Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week – James Hughes

James Hughes was IC's top runner with a fourth place finish in 15:56.8 on the 5K course at Brockport on Saturday. Ithaca placed second as a team in its first official meet of the season. A total of 122 runners competed in the race.

Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week – Jessica Goode

Jessica Goode led the way for Ithaca with a runner-up performance of 19:30.7 on the 5K course at Brockport on Saturday as the Bombers won team scoring with 37 points in their first official race of the season. Goode competed against 91 other runners in the race.

Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week – Hannah Pawlowski

Hannah Pawlowski clocked a time of 20:49.7 to secure 17th overall and round out the top five placements for Ithaca at the 5K race at Brockport. Ithaca won the event with 37 points as 91 runners were in the competition.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week – Ivan Kisic

First year Ivan Kisic had an immediate impact for the Bombers in his first collegiate tournament over the weekend. Competing in the St. Lawrence Fall Classic, Kisic was in top form as he claimed the "B" Singles title on Sunday. Kisic took down Union's Jesus Sosa by an 8-5 score and in a quarterfinals matchup, he defeated RIT's Christian Berko 8-6. In his next match, he was able to defeat teammate Luis Crespo by an 8-4 score to punch his ticket in the final where he squared off against Alan Wang from the University of Rochester. Kisic ended up prevailing over Alan Wang defeating the Yellowjacket 8-4.

HONOR ROLL

Junior midfielder Drew Warren had a career day, doubling his collegiate career point total against Alfred State as he was involved in both of Ithaca College's two goals scored in the 2-1 win over the Pioneers. Warren got the scoring started for the Bombers when he converted from the penalty spot with a perfectly placed effort and also dished out the assist in the game-winning goal that was scored in the 71st minute.

Grace Hickey stopped the only shot that came her way, recording her 14th career shutout and second of the season. The Bombers improved to 2-0-1 on the season as they delivered a dominant 4-0 win over Mount Saint Mary College this past weekend.

Ava Detorie continued her strong start to her season on Saturday as she dished out assists on two of Bombers four goals that were scored in the 4-0 win over Mount Saint Mary. Detorie slid a beautiful ball across the box that Ally Stanton pounced on for the game-winning goal in the 18th minute and followed it up with another assist in the second half on a Sarah Sinnot goal.

Emma Garver earned one assist and made two defensive saves in a 1-1 week for No. 23 Ithaca. Garver assisted on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Misericordia on September 4 and recorded a pair of defensive saves in a 3-2 overtime loss at New Paltz on September 7.

Colin Schumm accounted for all three touchdowns in Ithaca's 27-23 loss to No. 8 Johns Hopkins as he threw for one score and rushed for two more. Schumm finished the game with 250 yards passing on 17-of-34 attempts and ran for 48 yards on 13 carries.
