Women’s Rowing Crowned Liberty League Champions for the Sixth-Straight Season

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Bombers returned to Saratoga Springs to compete in the Liberty League Championships and crushed the day on Friday, May 3. The Bombers entered and won four events sweeping the competition in the 1V, 2V, V4 and Novice 8. 
 
The day started with heats in the 1V and 2V. Both Ithaca boats led wire to wire winning their heats and advancing to their respective finals. 
 
The first final was in the V4 which featured the likes of Meghan Bell, Emma Thorne, Hope Oliveira, Skylar Moresi and Brandi Landis.  This was a two boat race with RIT. Ithaca won by open water with a time of 8:21.00 and RIT was 8:54.959. 
 
The Novice 8 lineup on Friday was Haley Beckford, Juniper Gattone, Joanna Morales, Carys Owen, Winifred Kanayo-Ezenwata, Emily Murphy, Emmi Chen, Sarah Chraibi and Payton Fisch also took to the water against RIT in a two boat final. The Bombers out shined the Tigers by 37 seconds finishing with a time of 7:41.002. 
 
The 2V for Ithaca had a great start and got a jump on both RIT and William Smith. Both of those crews pushed the Bombers from start to finish. Each time one of their opponents started to move, Ithaca was there to answer with a countermove. The sprint in the last 250 was beautifully executed and sealed the first place finish and recorded time of 7:27.00. William Smith finished second with a time of 7:32.668 and Rochester was third with a time of 7:40.142. The Bombers 2V lineup was Nicole De La Mota, Emma Anderson, Chloe Croft, Anna Capodilupo, Ashley Bailey, Zoe Paradis Stern, Emmeline Robinson, Melanie Belmont and Julia DiCostanzo.
 
The 1V for Ithaca was Caroline Hoskins, Taylor Volmrich, Lily Babcock, Laura Trainor, Maggie Farber, Erin Trojan, Kai Lincke, Samantha Gallagher and Emma Hammel as they raced with confidence. Their start, while not their best, kept them in the pack. By 300 meters, the Bombers started to move away from the field. William Smith and RIT, both chased and pushed Ithaca, they ended up racing side by side and started batting for second place. The final results were Ithaca 7:02.0, over RIT at 7:11.2 who nipped William Smith at 7:11.9.
 
Every Ithaca College student-athlete finished the day as a Liberty League Champion. The Bombers will return to action on Sunday, May 12 competing at NIRC Championships.
