Women’s Rowing Compete against William Smith, RIT and University of Rochester

4/8/2024 10:47:00 AM

ITHACA, N.Y. – Even though the weather earlier in the week wasn't the greatest with consistent rain and even snow in the area, it turned out to be good enough for races on the Cayuga Inlet on Saturday, April 6. It was an outstanding day for the Bombers as they raced in six races and them all.

The Ithaca 1V lineup on Saturday consisted of Caroline Hoskins, Taylor Volmrich, Lily Babcock, Laura Trainor, Maggie Farber, Erin Trojan, Kai Lincke, Samantha Gallagher and Emma Hammel as they battled RIT in the first race of the day. The 1V lined up against RIT first and despite the wind, they had a strong quick start and lead wire to wire putting together a time of 7:31.6 compared to RIT's 7:44.9. The second matchup was against University of Rochester. Conditions got worse, but that did not dampen the rower's spirits and Ithaca opened early and finished 7:53.8 ahead of Rochester.

The 2V eight had the same matchups, facing RIT first and the University of Rochester second. They won both races handily finishing with a time of 8:05.4 against the RIT Tigers and then bested Rochester with a time of 8:28.6, compared to the 'Jackets 9:14.2. The lineup for Ithaca consisted of Nicole De La Mota, Emma Anderson, Chloe Croft, Anna Capodilupo, Ashley Bailey, Zoe Paradis Stern, Emmeline Robinson, Melanie Belmont and Julia DiCostanzo.

The novice eight paired off with RIT and won pretty handily with a time of 8:37.9, compared to the Tigers boat who produced a time of 10:11.9. Everyone in this boat started rowing at Ithaca College this year. They went down the course with confidence and dominated from start to finish. Unfortunately, they did not get their second race because the other novice boats scratched due to the rough conditions. The women's four was the final Ithaca boat to race, winning with a time of 9:40.4 as Aubren Villasenor, Skylar Moresi, Avery LaVergne, Brandi Landis and Hope Oliveira competed together.

The women's first varsity travels to the Knecht Cup for two days of racing on April 13-14.  The rest of the squad will race at home against Nazareth and Cornell Rowing Club on Saturday, April 13.
