CHERY HILL, N.J. – After inclement weather forced all the Saturday races to be rescheduled to Sunday, the Ithaca College women's rowing team competed in the 2024 Knecht Cup. Every year the Knecht Cup invites colleges from across the country to compete in a three-day event.
The Bombers Varsity 8+ lineup of
Caroline Hoskins,
Taylor Volmrich,
Lily Babcock,
Maggie Farber,
Erin Trojan,
Kai Lincke,
Samantha Gallagher, and
Emma Hammel had to wait a long time before they could sit at the starting line for their race at the Knecht Cup this weekend. All racing on Saturday was cancelled due to 22mph winds and gusts up to 40 mph.
The Bombers took it in stride, shifted gears and refocused on the new progression. The weather on Sunday was much better and racing resumed. Ithaca lined up against Drake, Lehigh, Jacksonville and Delaware. The top finisher would advance to the Grand Final. Ithaca was with the pack off the start. In the second 500, the Bombers battled to take over second place behind Jacksonville who gradually inched away. Delaware in lane 6, and closest to shore, took several moves in the 3rd 500, but Ithaca was ready to counter every time. The two crews were level going into the last 500. With 250 meters to go, Ithaca mounted a well-executed sprint and moved out in front of Delaware.
The final times were Jacksonville 6:45.46, Ithaca 6:54.18, Delaware 6:58.65, Lehigh 7:05.28 and Drake 7:19.77. This time put Ithaca 13th in a pack of 26 Division 1 rowing schools. Ithaca College will return to action on Saturday, April 20 competing in the NYS Championships in Saratoga Springs with races slated to start at 8 a.m.
