GREENSBORO, N.C. – On the second day of the 2024 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, the three qualified Ithaca College divers were in action on Thursday as they competed on the 1-meter boards. There were 28 entries this season including IC's
Angela Burke,
Abby Marraccino and
Kailee Payne.
Payne ended up taking first on the 1-meter boards winning herself the Division III National Championship with a score of 515.15. The program followed up on a national championship from Ava Lowell in the 3-meter during the 2021-22 season as this time it was
Kailee Payne who stepped up on the national stage. She ended up besting the field with a finals score of 515.15, as she bested the next closest competitor by over 62 points. Her next closest competitor was Chicago's Veronica Fong who put together a finals score of 452.70. Her total was the fourth best in program history.
Once ahead of the pack Payne didn't look back but also achieving Honorable Mention All-American status for the Bombers was graduate student
Abby Marraccino who finished in 10th place overall with a score of 418.25.
It was the Bombers second National Championship in three seasons and the sixth overall national champion in program history.
Divers will once again compete on Saturday, March 23 as they'll compete on the 3-meter boards.
