Men’s Swimming & Diving Wraps Up Competition and Wins the Bomber Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming & diving program wrapped up competition on Sunday evening on the final night of the Bomber Invitational at Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium. The Bombers won four total events during the final evening as they claimed the team title after three days. Ithaca totaled 1,845 team points to claim first and were followed by the University of Rochester (1,435), Hamilton College (1,393), Alfred University (948) and Middlebury College (807) wrapped up the top-5.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ethan Godfrey was crowned champion on the 3-meter diving boards with a score of 543.15. Also achieving an NCAA Regional qualifying score was teammate Kian Long who took home second with a score of 502.85.
  • It was an exciting finish in the 200-yard medley relay with Ithaca's "A" relay squad of Alec Kutsner, Will Stanczewski, Matthew Mitros, and Spencer Alderson combined for a first-place finish of 1:32.01, which bested the foursome from Rochester who touched the final wall at 1:32.47.
  • Ryan Cooke paced the field in the 500-yard freestyle winning the finals event for the Bombers, clocking in at 4:39.73. Right behind him were teammates Santiago Ludwig (4:42.00) and James Kissel who was third at 4:43.35.
  • Kutsner, Marshall Adams and Evan Wardrop finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively in the 200-yard backstroke that was won by a Rochester Yellow Jacket. Alec Kutsner had the top IC time of 1:52.18.
  • Matthew Mitros was in top form as he paced the field in the 100-yard butterfly with a finals time of 50.55, which topped Alex Vasquez of Hamilton College who was second in 51.28.
  • In the 200-yard breaststroke, Matthew Janssen was the Bombers top finish as he touched the final wall in 2:07.97, which was good for fourth place. Spencer Alderson was fifth in the 100-yard freestyle that was won by Hamilton's Nathaniel Taft (44.75).
  • The 200-yard IM saw Matthew Janssen earn another top-3 finish for the Bombers as he swam a time of 1:58.14, which was good for third. In the final event of the Bomber Invite, Ithaca's "A" relay squad of Alec Kutsner, Santiago Ludwig, Spencer Alderson and Ryan Cooke were second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a combined time of 3:05.27. Hamilton came in first recording a time of 3:04.56.
Next up, Ithaca College will head south for their winter training trip in Florida. The program will then be off before returning to action on Saturday, January 11 where they will square off against Hamilton College and RIT in Rochester, N.Y. in a pair of duals.
