YORK, Pa. – The Ithaca College men's wrestling team finished up its annual trip to Pennsylvania for the 15
th Annual New Standard Invitational, which is hosted by York College (Pa.) as the Bombers picked up a sixth-place finish out of 15 institutions.
141 lbs. Isaias Torres
Torres grinded through his quarterfinals bout as it ended up going back and forth between himself and Andrew Schaen (Ursinus College), but Schaen scored the pivotal point in a 12-11 decision that sent Torres to the consolation bracket.
149 lbs. Wenchard Pierre-Louis – Third Place
Pierre-Louis as mentioned yesterday is wrestling in his first competitive action of the 2024-25 season and he was sharp again on Saturday picking up the Bombers a third-place finish. He edged out Evan Lindner in what turned out to be a 5-4 medical forfeit. In the bout prior, he was able to score a 12-2 major decision over Dustin Smith. On the weekend he ended up going 6-1.
165 lbs. Konrad Parker – Third Place
The talented junior easily was able to punch his ticket into the semifinals that guaranteed himself a top-6 finish after besting Jack Bailey from Stevens, 9-2. He then fell in a 13-5 major decision to JWU's Jack Richardson. He would then return the favor to Landon Kissel who he faced earlier in the invite and again dominated, this time winning by a 14-0 major decision. He finished off the invite with a chip on his shoulder and it showed as he won over Max Corral in a 22-6 tech fall.
174 lbs. Jackson Gray – Third Place
Jackson Gray earned his second consecutive pin on the weekend as he was able to earn the fall in 1:07 over Roanoke's Kyle Lee in his quarterfinal bout. He would then come up just short in a 7-5 decision to York's Joshua Stahl but ended his invite on a high note by gaining another pin, this time over AJ Cerulli (Ursinus College) in 1:48. Next up, in his third-place bout, he had a nice takedown and ended beating Harrison Hinojosa from Stevens via a 5-2 decision.
Xavier Pommells 184 lbs. – Fourth Place
Pommells had a tough quarterfinals matchup with Tyler Withers with the U.S. Merchant Marine ending up earning the pin in 5:37. Pommells won his next match, pinning Roanoke College's Steven Matinos in a minute on the dot. He would end up taking a medical forfeit to finish the 184 lb. bracket in fourth place.
The Bombers men's wrestling team will travel back to Pennsylvania for their next competition in two weeks where they will compete in their first duals of the 2024-25 season. Ithaca will finish finals week and then travel to Messiah College for the Chocolate Duals on Saturday, December 21. Wrestling is planned to begin at 10 a.m. with the dual opponents to be released the week of the competition.
