ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming & diving team returned to action inside the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium and following the second day of the Bomber Invitational they remain in the lead totaling 959 team points. Behind them are Middlebury College (807), Hamilton College (741), the University of Rochester (728) and Alfred University who sit in fifth at 504 team points.
The Bombers scored a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with
Alec Kutsner,
Ryan Cooke,
Spencer Alderson and
Matthew Mitros who combined for a time of 1:23.65 as they were just nipped out by Hamilton's relay squad that recorded a finals time of 1:22.84.
Santiago Ludwig and
James Kissel were able to swim to a second and third-place finish, respectively in the 200-yard butterfly. Ludwig touched the final wall at 1:51.85 and Kissel put together a time of 1:53.81. The 200-yard freestyle saw
Ryan Cooke as the top IC finisher recording a time of 1:41.26, which was good for a second place result.
First year
Will Stanczewski produced a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.58 seconds as the event was won by Middlebury's Paul Shen (55.42).
Alec Kutsner and
Evan Wardrop both appeared in the "A" final of the 100-yard backstroke and they each finished third and seventh, respectively. Kutsner was third with a time of 50.98 and Wardrop finished the event at 51.78.
Matthew Janssen scored 27 points with his fourth-place finish in the 400-yard IM and time of 4:09.54. The event was won by Carlos Gonzalez of Alred who touched the final wall at 4:03.93.
In diving action,
Ethan Godfrey won the 1-meter competition putting together a total of 510.64 that bested teammate
Kian Long who scored a 473.60.
The 50-yard freestyle saw
Matthew Mitros easily win the 50-yard freestyle recording a time of 20.22 which was faster than Ryan Hough from Nazareth who produced a 20.87 in the "A" final.
In the final event of the evening, which was event 24 the 400-yard medley relay Ithaca electrified the crowd with a first-place finish and time pf 3:23.87. Scoring 64 team points for the Bombers with the win were
Alec Kutsner,
Will Stanczewski,
Santiago Ludwig and
Ryan Cooke.
The invitational will resume at 9 a.m. with prelims in the 500-yard freestyle the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard IM with the finals taking place in the evening at 6 p.m. Diving will get underway at 12:30 p.m. with the women competing on the 1-meter boards with the finals also taking place at 6 p.m. along with the 400-yard freestyle relay.
