Women’s Rowing Wraps Up Fall Schedule at Bucknell

12/17/2024 1:56:00 PM

Shamokin Dam, Pa. - The Ithaca College women's rowers wrapped up fall season on November 10 at a Novice-Only Invitational at Bucknell. Crews from Bucknell, RIT, Rochester, West Virginia, Villanova, Susquehanna and Ithaca lined up in a round-robin style for three 1k races, allowing crews to test their consistency & learn from each new trip down the course.

In the first round, Ithaca faced the A entry from Bucknell.  The first half of the piece was tight, but the Bombers would gradually pull to a 4 sec lead, posting the fastest time of all entries in the first round.

With initial nerves settled, the Bombers threw down a more decisive 25 second victory over Bucknell's C boat in the 2nd piece.

By the third round of racing, headwind and chop were adding time & difficulty to every crew's racing.  Ithaca lined up with a mixed 8+ from Susquehanna & had just pulled ahead in the closest fight of the day when a crab in the final strokes ruined their chance of a clean sweep.

Overall, the crew counted the day as a success, rallying around each other with reminders of their combined strength & how far they have come since taking their first strokes this past August. We can't wait to see how they will develop & contribute to the greater team in the spring season. The novice crew, coxed by Smeena Gill, included Bryanna Mendoza Arias, Marie Nemeth, Ava Connor, Maisie Sagaas, Calla Bobak, Nik Weinberger, Farzaneh Safari, Emma Rosenthal.

Rowing will pick back up in the spring when Ithaca hosts the Cayuga Duals on Saturday, March 29 at 9 a.m.
