CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Ithaca College men's wrestling program saw some good competition over the weekend on Sunday as they traveled and competed in the Bob Del Rosa Ohio Intercollegiate Open that was held on the campus of Case Western Reserve University. Inside the Veale Convocation, Recreation, and Athletic Center, the Bombers saw
Konrad Parker and
Jackson Gray place third and second, respectively in the Open Division. Ithaca also had wrestlers competing in the Freshman & Sophomore Division and both
Chris Reddy and
Jake Jones each placed third in their respective weight classes, while
Eamon Callaghan finished fifth and
Will Bentrim came back to the South Hill with a sixth-place finish.
After winning his first matchup by ease,
Jackson Gray was competing at 174 lbs., and he scored a 17-2 technical fall over Baldwin Wallace's Brandon Burkhart. Next up, he took on Division II Seton Hill's Kane Kettering by a 4-2 decision to punch a ticket to the first-place bout where he fell to an unattached Tyrel Miller by a 12-0 major decision.
Konrad Parker was the other medalist for the Bombers on Sunday. Parker defeated Justin Sweeney by a 20-4 tech fall, rolled over Reese Hamblen by defeating him via a major decision (14-3). He lost his first bout of the season in a back-and-forth affair against Tate Gelser that went Gelser's way as he scored a 7-2 decision. Parker would earn third place in the Open 165 lb. division by pinning the University of Toledo's Ezekiel Burkholder in 4:47.
Matt Haycook scored a fourth-place finish after winning his first two bouts on Sunday. He scored a 10-5 decision over Tyler Ratledge and a 4-1 win over Gannon's Jacob Wright.
Ryan Galka saw his first action of the 2024-25 season going 3-2 overall. He scored an impressive technical fall at 19-4 over Dontey Rogan and was equally good downing Anthony Gencarelli by an 11-6 decision.
Competing at 165 lbs. for Ithaca in the freshman/sophomore division was
Jake Jones who earned three-straight pins but he eventually fell to D1 Connor Holm from Cleveland State but was sharp in his third-place bout as he ended up pinning Nate Blough in 1:05. The other third-place result came from
Chris Reddy who wrestled at 174.
Reddy received a first round bye and would go 2-1 on the day. He picked up a 19-2 decision over Matthew Hamad from Baldwin Wallace but fell 8-0 to his opponent from Case Western. He was able to medal and scored at will taking down Tiffin's Matthew Galemmo by a 12-5 decision.
The Bomber upperclassman came in fifth-place of 32 schools and in the freshman and sophomore bracket Ithaca placed in second totaling 78 team points. Both divisions had wrestlers from D1, D2 and D3 schools.
This weekend will be another tournament style competition for the Bombers. They will travel to the campus of SUNY Oneonta who will host the NYS Championships. Wrestling is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday and finish the same day.
