Ithaca Wrestling Improves to 9-5 with Three Dual Wins as Part of the John Reece Duals

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Ithaca College wrestling team had a quick turnaround after competing on Saturday they were back in action squaring off against Springfield College, Keystone College and Penn College as part of the John Reese Duals hosted by Wilkes. The Bombers got off to a good start coming up with a 28-20 victory over the Springfield Pride in their morning matchup.

With his four win this weekend, graduate student Matthew Beyer brought his career win total to 100.

The Bombers found themselves in a 14-0 hole after losing their respective matchups at 125, 133 and 141 lbs. Graduate student Matthew Beyer helped turn things around earning a second period fall at 3:40 over Springfield's Ty Stewert. However, Aaron Nelson was pinned by the Pride's Matthew Duquette at 157 lbs, but it was all Ithaca from there winning each of the next four matches.

The IC run began with Konrad Parker claiming a 10-4 decision win over Myles Leonard that was followed by back-to-back pins from Jackson Gray and Jake Jones making the team score 21-20 in favor of the Bombers. Next up at 197 lbs., it was Ryan Galka who was all over his Springfield opponent Casey Allen winning via a major decision (16-8). In what proved to be the closest matchup between the two schools, Jeremy Mazzella handled Benjamin Katz winning by an 8-4 decision.

Ithaca was able to easily defeat Keystone with their only six points coming in a forfeit as they also gave up forfeits at 125 lbs., 184 lbs., and 197 lbs. Matthew Beyer captured arguably his strongest victory of the season pinning Ralph Nieves in 16 seconds. Also earning falls for the Bombers were Pedro Cruz who pinned Dalten Klinges in 3:44 and Brian Bienus achieved the same but did it in 1:26 over Codi Bomboy.

It was once again a decision victory for Jeremy Mazzella as he won his second consecutive match on the afternoon this time defeating Rocco Arduini, 4-1.

Ithaca College continued its winning ways against Penn College as they used three impressive falls to power them to the dual victory. Matthew Beyer got the job done against TJ Martin pinning Martin at 2:53. Jake Jones who currently ranks within the top-3 in NCAA Division III in pins, earned the fall in 18 seconds over Penn College's Andy Muzika. The third and final pin was from Ryan Galka who got it done in 3:36 over Gabriel Kennedy-Citeroni. Also earning six points for IC was Jeremy Mazzella who defeated his opponent via a medical forfeit.
 
With the three dual victories, Ithaca improves to 9-5 on the season and will return home to host a quad match in Ben Light Gymnasium on Saturday, February 3 with the Bombers welcoming SUNY Oneonta, Wesleyan University and Williams College to town for duals against each.
