Ithaca Divers Host the 12th Annual Dick Comanzo Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – On Sunday, January 28, 2024, the Ithaca College swimming & diving programs hosted the 12th Annual Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational inside the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium in the Athletics and Events Center. Competition included student-athletes from IC, Hobart & William Smith, SUNY Oneonta, Cortland, NYU, Hartwick and Alfred State.

The morning diving consisted of 11 dives on each board, starting with the women's 1-meter, followed by the 3-meter and vice versa for the men competing on Sunday. The 2023-24 regional cut scores were as follows and in order to qualify divers need two scores off each board in order to qualify for the regional meet: women's 1-meter- 395, women's 3-meter- 410, men's 1-meter- 425, men's 3-meter- 440.

In the men's action, the top IC finisher was Kian Long who finished in eighth place on the 1-meter boards. He totaled a finals score of 410.30 with Alfred State's Conor Compton finishing with the highest score at 509.90 followed by Cortland's Kaz Kadota-Browner (508.50) and Lance Meeson (467.10). The 3-meter competition saw Connor Compton once again put up an impressive score this time around totaling 537.60.

Junior Kailee Payne dominated the field on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. She began her morning by edging out teammate Abby Marraccino by over 50 points. Payne totaled a finals score of 498.70, with Marraccino totaling 447.70 and in fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively were Audrey Scott (422.05), Jenell Slesser (411.75) and Eliza Salus (410.95).

In 3-meter action, Payne who was the 10th diver out of 12 was once again impressive totaling a finals score of 491.45. Abby Marraccino was once again in second place this time totaling an 11-dive total of 479.65. Finishing in fourth and fifth were Jenell Slesser (432.30) and Audrey Scott (427.75).

The Bombers will host Geneseo and Union next Saturday for Senior Day in their final duals before competing in the Liberty League Championships, which begin on Wednesday, February 21.
