Riley Piromalli Spins a No-Hitter as the Bombers Sweep SUNY Geneseo

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team picked up two fantastic wins from Wednesday's doubleheader. The Bombers pitchers dominated, allowing no runs and just four hits thanks in part to Riley Piromalli's no-hitter in game one. Anna Cornell and Bella Scolaro dominated game two with a combined eight strikeouts as the Bombers' two-run fourth inning would be enough for the victory.

Game One, Ithaca College 7, SUNY Geneseo 0

Piromalli dominated from the first pitch, striking out 11 batters in seven innings pitched. The Ithaca bats came to life in the third inning, going for five runs to make life easy for Piromalli in the circle.

Piromalli retired the first nine batters of the game, striking out the side in the top of the second inning and two more in the third for a stretch of five in a row.

The Bombers gave some run support to Piromalli, grabbing a 5–0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Belle de Oliveira and Madison Casale hit back-to-back singles for the first two hits in the ballgame. Sela Scheinman walked to load the bases with one out and Allison Dell'Orto earned another walk to bring home a run. Hudson Hassler tripled with a line drive to the wall in left center field to clear the bases for a 4–0 lead. The Bombers got its fifth run of the ball game from Suzie Williams who lifted a fly ball to center field for a sacrifice fly.

The Knights got its first baserunner from an error in the top of the fourth inning, but Piromalli struck out her sixth batter to end the inning with a runner stranded at second base. Piromalli got three more whiffs in the fifth innings, striking out the side again.

In the bottom of the fifth, Scheinman singled and stole second with two outs. Hassler doubled down the left field line to extend Ithaca's lead to 6–0. Piromalli remained lights out with two more strikeouts in the sixth, taking a no-hitter into the final inning.

Piromalli forced a soft lineout to the shortstop, a shallow fly ball to center field and a groundball to finish off her no-hitter. Piromalli tossed her first career collegiate no-hitter and the 19th in program history. The Bombers' last no-hitter came in 2021 when Beth Fleming '21 no-hit RPI in the Liberty League tournament.

Game Two, Ithaca College 2, SUNY Geneseo 0

The Knights quickly got its first hit of the day in the top of the first, but two strikeouts from Anna Cornell would strand the runner at first. Cornell continued to mow down the Knights lineup, striking out five batters over the next three innings.

The Bombers threatened to score early with a runner in scoring position in each of the first three innings, but the Ithaca would not push a run across the plate until the fourth inning. Haley Petrucci led off the fourth with a double to right field, setting up an RBI single for Olivia Comolli and a 1–0 lead. Suzie Williams stole second base, pinch-running for Comolli, and came home from an error.

Bella Scolaro came into the game to replace Cornell in the top of the sixth inning. Scolaro forced three ground outs in the sixth to make for an easy inning and tossed a one-two-three inning in the seventh to close out a strong victory for the Bombers.

Cornell finished with seven strikeouts in five innings, allowing three hits. Scolaro allowed one hit but retired the final five batters with a strikeout for the final out earning her second save of the season.

The Bombers took both games of the doubleheader, improving their record to 21–10–1. Next up, Ithaca College will take on Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. before returning home for its last doubleheader of the regular season on Saturday against St. Lawrence University.
