CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's swimming & diving team returned to its winning ways on Saturday afternoon coming back to the South Hill with a 203-90 dual win over SUNY Cortland.
The Bombers got on the scoreboard first winning the 200-yard medley relay as
Katie Champagne,
Spencer Carroll,
Kathleen Papiernik and
Samantha Bender teamed up for the victory recording a time of1:51.93, compared to Cortland's 1:55.63. They also had the top-two finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relays as the Ithaca A-squad of
Samantha Bender,
Katie Champagne Sierra Houck and
Naomi Fry teamed for a finals time of 3:47.57.
In the long distance events,
Alex Eakin scored a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a recorded time of 11:17.84 as
Emma Heinze was third at 11:21.07.
Samantha Bender claimed first in the 200-yard freestyle finishing the event with a recorded time of 2:01.63. Fellow first year
Spencer Carroll bested the field in the 100-yard breaststroke winning it with a time of 1:10.95.
Naomi Fry was second in the 500-yard freestyle putting together a time of 5:27.50 as she was just behind Cortland's Leah Bernhardt who had a 5:27.22.
Carroll won another race this time the 200-yard Im as she beat out teammate
Jenna Molnar as they finished with times of 2:22.47 and 2:23.40, respectively.
Bender took home another first-place result, this time coming in the 200-yard backstroke with a finals time of 2:12.13. Valuable team points were gained by
Lauren Brady with her second-place finish and time of 1:03.19 in the 100-yard butterfly.
It was a one-two-three finish in the 100-yard backstroke with
Willa Sarcone coming in first with a time of 1:03.16 and
Norah Polonsky (1:06.00) was third followed by
Lauren Brady (1:06.04). In the 27
th event,
Jenna Molnar won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.31.
Angela Merch showed off her speed in the 50-yard free taking first touching the final wall in 25.80. Finishing third for the Bombers was
Sierra Houck with a recorded time of 26.27. In the 100-yard event
Sierra Houck (57.25) won first followed by
Katie Champagne who finished with a time of 57.27.
In diving action, the Bombers saw
Abby Marraccino claim first-place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. She won the 1-meter over teammate
Eliza Salus by putting together a score of 264.15. Marraccino would win the 3-meter, also over Salus as she totaled a score of 256.30 compared to Salus's 216.50.
With the dual win, Ithaca College improved to 2-1 on the season and will compete at RIT on Saturday, November 18 in its final tune up before the annual Bomber Invitational.
