TROY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team returned to action on Saturday and dropped a 175.5-112.5 result to RPI as the Engineers won both relay races, but exceptional performances were had by the Bombers in several other events.
It was a close finish in the meet opening 200-yard relay as the foursome from RPI won the event with a time of 1:34.16, which was just split seconds better than what
James Collishaw,
Michael Paulos,
Matthew Mitros and
Ryan Cooke produced as they finished with a 1:34.72.
Matthew Stevens earned himself a third-place finish in the 1000-yard relay as he touched the final wall for a time of 10:13.95.
Ryan Cooke earned his squad four team points with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle as he finished in 1:46.93.
The first win of the afternoon for Ithaca came in the eight event, the 100-yard backstroke as
James Collishaw bested the field finishing the race in 52,23, which was better than RPI's Jason Weller (52.31). Fellow senior
Michael Paulos finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.16) followed by teammate
Joe Pezzini who finished the event in 1:00.68. Collishaw would also go on to win the 50-yard freestyle showing off his speed with a time of 21.62. He continued his personal dominance winning his third event of the afternoon, this timing he bested the field in the 100-yard freestyle as he finished with a time of 47.02. Teammate
Matthew Mitros earned points for his squad with a third-place finish and time of 49.35.
Paulos would finish second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.63 and both
Santiago Ludwig and Jimmy Zhen for RPI touched the wall at the same time to tie for third at 53.76.
Matthew Janssen (2:14.30) and
Joe Pezzini (2:14.72) came in third and fourth respectively in the 200-yard breaststroke. The top finisher for the Bombers in the 500-yard freestyle was
Ryan Cooke who finished second with a recorded time of 4:53.41, which was over a second slower than Patrick Epifanio. Janssen earned four more points for the Bombers with a second-place finish and time of 2:00.88 in the 200-yard IM.
Both
Kian Long and
Samuel Smith competed in the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events on Saturday with Long finishing first in the 3-meter with a finals score of 285.83 with Smith coming in second with a total of 205.95. Long would win the 1-meter totaling 234.08.
The final event of the dual was the 400-yard freestyle where
Ryan Cooke,
Alec Kutsner,
Santiago Ludwig and
Matthew Mitros combined for a time of 3:13.72, which was good for second. Ithaca College will return to action next Saturday, November 4 at SUNY Cortland with dual slated to begin at 1 p.m.
