Field Hockey Falls in Regular Season Finale at No. 24 Ursinus, 3-2

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - In its final regular season competition, the Ithaca College field hockey team fell, 3–2, to the No. 24 Ursinus College Bears on Oct. 28 in Collegeville, Pa.
Following a scoreless first quarter riddled with chippy midfield play, the Bears' high-pressure offense took control of the second frame. Ursinus rattled off two quick goals early in the period — the first was an assisted play finished by junior striker Mary Lauren Franz, the second resulted from a drive off the Bears' third penalty corner of the competition. Senior midfielder Madelyn Cooper put the Bears in the lead, 2–0, only 5:16 into the quarter.
The remainder of the second frame was scoreless, but the Bombers entered the second half prepared to bounce back. Junior striker Juliana Valli was the first to put IC on the board 3:08 into the third quarter. The goal, assisted by sophomore striker Brenna Schoenfeld, marked Valli's ninth of the season.
Only two minutes later, the Bombers earned their second penalty corner of the competition and capitalized on the opportunity. Junior striker Emma Garver closed the gap 5:51 into the frame, tying the score at 2–2. The remainder of the quarter was a battle in the midfield until the final 30 seconds, when Franz managed a third for the Bears to close out the frame 3–2.
The final quarter saw no additional scoring from either team, securing the win for Ursinus. Bombers' senior goalkeeper Alex Clough earned seven saves for 10 shots on target throughout the competition.
The Bombers will enter postseason play as the top seed in the Liberty League, allowing them a bye out of the first round. They will next host the winner of Vassar College vs. Union College in the Liberty League semifinal game on Nov. 3.
