10/22/2023 10:13:00 PM

BOSTON, Mass. – For the third-consecutive season, the Ithaca College men's rowing team specifically with their Varsity 8 traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the annual The Head of the Charles Regatta. The Bombers qualified an entry into the men's collegiate eight category based on last season's 17th place finish in the race, The regatta provides an automatic bid for crews which place in the top half of each heat.

The regatta takes place on the famous Charles River which separates Boston and Cambridge. The river is host to many renowned rowing programs such as Harvard, Boston University, MIT, and more throughout the year. The Head of the Charles or HOCR as it is referred to is considered the largest two-day regatta in the world, with roughly 11,000 athletes rowing in over 1,900 boats in about 61 events. Teams travel from across the world to take part in this headline fall race.

On Sunday, the Bombers first varsity eight lineup consisted of Riley Maynard, Rhys Pellaton, Wesley Hoglin, Griffin Hunt, James Ross, Bryce Williston, Max Detzer and Miles Kenaston. They competed in a head race style, with crews launched in various increments with the goal being to pass crews that were ahead and hold off crews from behind.

Ithaca College finished in 28th place. They came through the first timing zone around 28th with a time of 3:52.172 as overall the Bombers crew finished the course with a final time of 16:31.688. They just edged out familiar foe Hobart College who finished in 29th with a recorded time of 16:31.938.

The Bombers will return to the South Hill where they will continue training for their next regatta, the Head of the Fish that takes place on Saturday, October 28 at 12 p.m. in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
