ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team improved to 11-4 this season and 4-1 in the Liberty League after the Bombers defeated the University of Rochester, 1-0, in overtime on Senior Day at Higgins Stadium. Avery Moses, one of the five seniors honored prior to the start of the game, scored the game-winning goal just 1:03 into the first overtime period.

It was a defensive battle from start to finish as there were just 14 total shots in the game.

IC took the only shot of the first quarter as Meara Bury ripped a shot on goal off a corner attempt, which was saved.

Rochester took control in the second quarter and did not allow a shot by the Bombers, while taking four on the Yellowjackets' side of the field. Nicole Fortunato came up with the big play of the period with a defensive save at the 9:40 mark to preserve the scoreless tie heading to the second half.

IC opened the third with possession and immediately fired off a hard shot by Natalie Descalso, which was saved at the 11:20 mark. Nearly seven minutes later, Descalso sent a cross that went untouched by just missed the stick of Catherine Papa who was unguarded on the near post.

The Bombers then earned a corner with two minutes left in the third. Descalso's shot was deflected towards the top of the cage and batted away by Elisabeth Sidorski for the defensive save to keep the game scoreless heading to the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Rochester earned a corner in the opening seconds and Clough saved the ensuing shot as that was the only scoring chance for UR in the period.

As the quarter came to a close, IC fired off two shots in the final 17 seconds of regulation but both were saved by Kara Houston to send the game to overtime.

The Bombers got the ball to start the first overtime period and never allowed UR to gain possession. Bury took the ball down the left side of the field into the circle and found Moses, who turned to set up an open shot to give Ithaca a crucial league win.

IC is off until October 20, when it will host RPI at 4 p.m. for the final regular season game of the season.
