No. 10 Women’s Lacrosse Moves onto Liberty League Final with 18-9 Win over No. 13 St. Lawrence

GENEVA, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 10 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team avenged a regular season loss to No. 13 St. Lawrence University with a dominant 18-9 victory on Saturday in the Liberty League Semifinals at William Smith College. The Bombers improve to 16-2 on the season and set a new school record for wins and will play No. 8 William Smith tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Ithaca quickly took 1-0 lead as Sydney Phillips scored on a free position less than a minute into the contest, but St. Lawrence answered with two straight goals to go ahead, 2-1, with 9:49 left in the quarter.

IC would knot things up at 2-2 as Megan Motkowski scored off a feed from Madison Boutureira at the 8:12 mark and then the Bombers regained the lead on a tally from Maizy Veitch nearly three minutes later.

St. Lawrence had the final say in the opening quarter as the Saints scored with just nine seconds remaining to tie the contest at 3-3.

The Bombers jumped back ahead to begin the second quarter as Caroline Wise won the draw and quickly pushed down to field and passed to Boutureira, who scored 48 seconds into the quarter. IC's lead then grew to 5-3 just 32 seconds later as Veitch found the back of the net for second goal of the game.

At the 11:08 mark of the second quarter, Veitch recorded her hat trick to extend the Bombers' edge to 6-3. St. Lawrence ended IC's run with 8:48 to play to pull to within two goals at 6-4. From there, the Bombers rattled off three more goals to establish a 9-4 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the half.

Phillips started the run with an advantage goal off a pass from Boutureira with 5:05 to play and then Lexi Kellish took a pass from Veitch with 3:17 on the clock to give IC an 8-4 lead. Boutureira capped the run on a free position goal with 1:55 left.

St. Lawrence answered with 18 seconds remaining to send the game into halftime at 9-5.

The Bombers came out of intermission on a tear as Veitch scored on back-to-back goals to give IC an 11-5 lead within the opening 3:30 of action. Midway though the quarter, IC extended its lead to 12-5 as Lauren White capitalized on a pass from Veitch.

The Saints would score the next two goals of the third quarter to pull to within a 12-7 score with 5:43 left, but IC ended the period with a tally from Maddie Hall on an advantage and pass from Kellish.

It was all Bombers from there as IC dominated the fourth quarter to advance to tomorrow's final against No. 8 William Smith.

In the fourth quarter, IC ran off four straight goals to reach the 10-goal rule as Phillips and Kellish each scored two goals during that stretch. St. Lawrence ended the running clock with 2:21 left in the contest, but Motkowski put home another goal with 1:20 to go to make the score 18-8. The Saints scored the final goal of the contest to account for the 18-9 final.
